UNDERSTANDING FRAGRANCE NOTES Artists use a colour wheel to understand how each colour relates to the next… for example, opposite colours on a wheel will clash, while those next to one another blend together. In the same way, perfume expert Michael Edwards created a fragrance wheel so that we can easily identify fragrances we are likely to enjoy. The fragrance wheel has four main families: floral, oriental, woody and fresh. Under each are sub-groups that provide a more detailed description of a particular fragrance. For example, a floral scent, with the addition of certain notes, may become a soft floral and so on. The notes and the wheel will give you an idea of which fragrances you are likely to enjoy before making your final selection.
